The diplomatic ideal for the leadership in the Asian-Pacific area after WWII also promotes Australia’s active participation into the solving of regional issues. The Indonesia issue took place at the time when Australia began to develop its post-war independent diplomacy, thus it also constituted the basis for the understanding of Australia’s later diplomacy on Southeast Asia area. The development of Australia’s diplomatic policy on the Indonesia issue reflects that Australia was transferring from the pre-war dependent diplomacy tradition to some attempt in independent regional diplomacy.
